CQ Lighting is a small company specialising in providing detailed, innovative and integrated lighting for projects, installations and events.
I use whatever technology and equipment is best suited for a project. Technological developments allow much more crossover between installations and event lighting. Understanding both brings greater scope on recommending best options for any project. With 25 years experience in lighting, I've worked in historic palaces and country estates, in theatres, amphitheatres, old warehouses, giant greenhouses, shipyards, courtyards, castles, quarries and more.
Allowing time to get familiar with a location is integral to designing the best lighting for any installation or project. A site visit is not just to get measurements, but a vital part of learning what makes a place - and the people who look after it - special.
Recent work includes several lighting installations at Kensington Palace, in particular Victoria's Christmas which enjoyed 3 winter installations, and Enchanted Palace (with WildWorks Theatre). Also lighting exhibits at Kew Pagoda (HRP), cabinets for the heritage team at Bristol Old Vic, and several rooms at Croome Court for the National Trust. Working abroad with the Giant Puppet Project in Cambodia for 4 seasons; and previously for Theatre Projects Consultants in the USA and international touring for the British Council (with Kneehigh Theatre). Theatrical shows include the Man Engine (Golden Tree - winner of the 2017 lottery best arts project), Hireth (Palores Productions/O-Region), Souterrain, Babel and The Beautiful Journey (WildWorks), and numerous events and installations at The Eden Project in Cornwall. Other international work includes lighting Invisible Circus in Amiens, France, and WildWorks' installation 'Once Upon a Castle' in Kasteel van Gaasbeek, Belgium.
I love working with artistic people whose sense of humour is bigger than their egos, and who want the journey to be as good as the destination.
